Today, I’m going to be reviewing Whichwood by Tahereh Mafi 🙂 Whichwood is the sequel / companion novel to Furthermore, which I absolutely loved, and big thanks to Penguin for sending me an ARC to review!
Feel free to check out my review of Furthermore HERE if you haven’t and now let’s get started with the review!
Release date : 14 November 2017
Published by : Dutton Books For Young Readers
A new adventure about a girl who is fated to wash the bodies of the dead in this companion to Furthermore.
Our story begins on a frosty night…
Laylee can barely remember the happier times before her beloved mother died. Before her father, driven by grief, lost his wits (and his way). Before she was left as the sole remaining mordeshoor in the village of Whichwood, destined to spend her days washing the bodies of the dead and preparing their souls for the afterlife. It’s become easy to forget and easier still to ignore the way her hands are stiffening and turning silver, just like her hair, and her own ever-increasing loneliness and fear.
But soon, a pair of familiar strangers appears, and Laylee’s world is turned upside down as she rediscovers color, magic, and the healing power of friendship.
My rating : ♥♥♥♥ / ♥♥♥♥♥

Going into Whichwood, I was expecting something a little darker because of the synopsis and it actually is darker as compared to Furthermore but it was still equally as magical!
Tahereh never fails to impress me with the whimsical worlds she creates and her writing style made the story fun to read. The aspects of friendship and family were key focuses in the story and there were many scenes that really touched my heart 🙂
As always, the character were so fun to read about! I was so happy to see Alice and Oliver back in the story and I loved the friendship between the two of them and Laylee !!! It was really heartwarming to see how they became from mere strangers to friends and it added such nice warmth and colour to the story.
There is also a little romance factor to the story 😉 which I won’t be going into detail because spoilers!!! I honestly didn’t care much for the romance as compared to the friendship aspect but it was really cute at times and the development of it was great.
Overall, I would definitely recommend you guys to pick up Whichwood!!! It was such a great companion novel to Furthermore and it’s a really wonderful middle grade novel 🙂
That wraps up this review and I hope you guys enjoyed it! Whichwood comes out tomorrow so don’t forget to go pick up a copy for yourself ❤
Thanks for reading and I’ll see you in my next post, byeee!
