Hello everyone, how has your week been so far? 🙂 I just started my new semester at college and I’ve already been so busy so I apologise if I upload blogposts more irregularly!
Today, I thought I would share with you some of the diverse and/or #OwnVoices books that I would like to read this year! I’m making it a goal to not only read more diversely but talk more about diversity and diverse books on my blog. Let’s get started with the post!
The Hate U Give is high up on my TBR list. It is an #OwnVoices book and the story was inspired by the Black Lives Movement. This book is definitely going to be a very important and impactful read and all of you should definitely support the author and pick up a copy when it’s out! ❤
History Is All You Left Me was featured on my most anticipated January 2017 releases, which you can check out HERE , so I won’t talk much about it here but this book is #OwnVoices and has gay romance in it 🙂 It was also just released so definitely go pick up a copy for yourself!!!
A List Of Cages is also another book that was featured in my most anticipated January 2017 releases post and I actually just received this in the mail and I’m very excited to read it! This book features a main character with ADHD and I heard it was heartbreaking as well.
Iron Cast is a fantasy / historical fiction novel and I’ve heard such great things about it! This book features a main character that is a PoC and it also focuses on female friendships which I obviously love.
Simon VS The Homo Sapien’s Agenda is seriously such a popular LGBTQ book and I’m sure everyone has heard of it and read it! I’m definitely going to pick this up this year and I can’t wait ❤
Under Rose-Tainted Skies is another #OwnVoices book and I’ve heard that the main character has OCD, agoraphobia and anxiety. The premise does sound similar to Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon but I’ve seen really wonderful reviews for this book and I hope to get a copy soon!
I’m honestly not sure what When The Moon Was Ours is about but I think there’s a LGBTQ romance in it and I’ve also heard that the writing is very beautiful and lyrical!
Of Fire And Stars is a YA fantasy novel featuring a f/f romance and though I’ve heard mixed reviews, I’m still pretty interested to read this and maybe I’ll end up enjoying it!
I’ve been seeing If I Was Your Girl a lot around and the main character is a transgender. The author is actually also a transgender so this is an #OwnVoices novel, which is really great. I’ve never read a book featuring a transgender main character so I’m pretty excited to read this 🙂 I’ve already ordered a copy and I can’t wait for it to arrive!
Lastly, we have When Dimple Met Rishi which comes out in May and this is a YA contemporary novel! The premise sounds super adorable and it follows the story of two Indian-Americans 🙂 Very excited to pick this up when it’s out!
Those are all of the diverse, #OwnVoices books I would like to read this year and I hope you all enjoyed it! Please feel free to leave me any other recommendations in the comments as I’m always looking for more diverse books to add to my TBR ❤ Thank you for reading and I’ll see you in my next post, bye!
