{ Book Review } – A Court Of Thorns And Roses by Sarah J. Maas

IMG_3108.jpgHi everyone! Hope you all are having a lovely weekend ❤
Today’s blogpost is super exciting because it is going to be a spoiler free review of A Court Of Thorns And Roses by Sarah J. Maas!! * joyful screams * This book is a Beauty and the Beast retelling and was released in 2015. I know I’m very late to the party because I only read it in May haha, but I absolutely LOVED IT and I’m also currently reading the sequel and I’m almost done with it so expect a review soon 🙂
Before I start my review, I just wanted to mention that I feel that this book would be more suitable towards mature audiences. I know that it is categorised under Young Adult on Goodreads but after reading it, I feel that it’s more towards the New Adult genre as there are some pretty explicit scenes. Now let’s get on to the review 😀
Release Date : 5 May 2015
Published By : Bloomsbury Children’s
Genres : Young Adult, Fantasy, Romance, New Adult, Re-Tellings
Synopsis : When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin—one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world.
As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she’s been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow grows over the faerie lands, and Feyre must find a way to stop it… or doom Tamlin—and his world—forever.
My Rating : ♥♥♥♥ / ♥♥♥♥♥
Here are my thoughts about the book!!
Plot :
ACOTAR is a Beauty and the Beast retelling but to be honest, I didn’t see much of the Beauty and the Beast aspects in the story. I do like retellings to still have that magical feel to it but I guess this book is more of action and romance. Nonetheless, I still really enjoyed the storyline and the action in the book was definitely amazing!! The story is really fast-paced and I found myself getting really grossed in the plot and just flying through the book 🙂
World-Building :
I think that Sarah J. Maas did a wonderful job in describing the different places in this book and there is definitely a good amount of world building. I loved reading about the different courts and the world building did feel really magical. I loved how detailed she was while describing not only places, but how the characters looked as well!
” It was veiled in roses and ivy, with patios and balconies and staircases sprouting from its alabaster sides. “
HOW AMAZING DOES THAT SOUND?!?!
Characters :
The only problem I had was with the characters. The only character I LOVED was Rhysand HEHEHE ❤
Feyre was really sassy but she was just annoying, and there was no character development that went on with her. I didn’t care much for Tamlin, Lucien, Alis and the other secondary characters ( I’m sorry if you love them, don’t hate me please!! )
I loved Rhysand because he really went through major character development and I can see lots of potential in him. I feel that there’s definitely a lot more backstory to his character which I’m excited to read about. Also on a side note, I really liked how Sarah described Amarantha, who is the evil queen.
” Her red-gold hair was neatly braided and woven through her golden crown, the deep colour enriching her snow-white skin, which, in turn, set off her ruby lips. “
I think Sarah did a fantastic job in creating Amarantha’s character and portraying her as a really cruel and heartless person because I literally felt chills while reading those chapters with her.
Romance :
I did not enjoy the romance between Feyre and Tamlin. Honestly, I did not see much of a connection and it didn’t feel very genuine and sincere, that is my personal opinion 😦
